Summer is here, and if you’re taking some well-deserved weekend time off or just trying to make the week more exciting, why not check out some of the fantastic local festivals happening across the Southeast and nearby states? Whether you’re rolling through Arkansas, soaking up sun in Florida, or exploring the heart of Tennessee, these summer fun fests—ranging from arts and food celebrations to big-name music festivals—offer great ways to unwind, enjoy local culture, and maybe even discover some new favorite traditions.

Here are some of our favorite festivals to add to your road trip itinerary this summer:
Alabama
Where: Birmingham, AL (Sloss Furnaces)

An annual three-day gathering featuring heavy music—hardcore, punk, emo, metalcore—set in an iconic industrial backdrop. It draws fans from across the region and beyond.
Arkansas
Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair
Where:, Prairie Grove, AR
When: Labor Day Weekend
Admission: Free (Parking: $5 per car)
Experience a charming throwback at the Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, where handmade crafts abound and local children compete in a lively square-dancing competition. It’s a great way to enjoy a taste of Arkansas tradition before you hit the road again.
Georgia
Firefly Festival
Where: Madison, GA
When: July 25–26, 2025
Bring the whole family to Madison for the Firefly Festival, a kid-friendly event featuring stilt walkers, music, bubbles, face painting, inflatables, crafts, and more. It’s a perfect way to light up your (and your entire family’s) weekend with smiles and laughter.

Celebrating over two decades in the city, this art & music fest blends live regional music, art installations, food vendors, and a community 5K. A beloved Atlanta tradition perfect for families and local explorers.
South Carolina
Charleston Caribbean Jerk Festival

Don’t miss this finger-lickin’ good celebration of Caribbean food, music, and culture. Taste-test some of the best jerk recipes, watch the chicken wing eating contest and soak up the good vibes. Warning: You’ll leave craving more!
Tennessee

A rising regional favorite, Sound Haven brings together indie, folk, and Americana artists in a relaxed, rural setting. The three-day lineup spans local acts and national indie bands, known for its intimate community vibe and well-curated performances
Texas
Great Texas Mosquito Festival

Texas-sized fun takes on a quirky twist at this offbeat festival featuring mosquito-calling contests, carnival games, cornhole tournaments, and “skeeter”-themed food. Don’t forget to look for Willie-Man-Chew, the giant mosquito mascot!
