Honoring Heroes: Averitt's Role in Military Appreciation Projects

Post Date - Jan 22, 2024

Our commitment to supporting veterans and active military service members is at the forefront of our values. We recently had the honor of participating in two remarkable community service projects, each designed to bring joy and appreciation to those who have selflessly served our country.

Patriotic Pies

We’re honored to have played a role in a special mission – transporting Moon Pies from fellow Tennessee-based Chattanooga Bakery to the soldiers stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. This initiative is part of the Patriotic Pie project by Chattanooga Bakery, where schools engage in fundraising efforts by selling boxes of Moon Pies. Purchasers could choose to send their orders directly to military personnel, bringing a bit of sweetness to soldiers.

This year, 10,000 boxes of Moon Pies were purchased. We were excited and honored to use our military-themed trailer to deliver the Moon Pies to Fort Campbell in late November. Missions like these further our commitment to our nation’s servicemen and servicewomen. We take pride in being part of a legacy that spans over a century, focusing on community and shared moments of kindness.

Hawkeye & Michelle's 10,000 for the Troops

In the spirit of spreading joy and warmth to U.S. troops serving overseas, our team is also proud to have participated in the fifth annual 10,000 for the Troops holiday card drive. The heartfelt campaign, hosted by the dedicated team at New Country 96.3 in North Texas, aimed to send warm and hopeful wishes to servicemen and servicewomen during this holiday season.

The campaign's success is a testament to the incredible outpouring of support from the community. This year's effort resulted in an astounding collection of 152,869 cards, including over 15,000 signed by our associates and their families. The campaign was celebrated with a live broadcast at PNC Plaza at Victory Park in Dallas, Texas, the home of New Country 96.3.

We’re honored to have offered a helping hand in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for donors as they dropped off their cards full of well wishes and gratitude to our nation’s heroes.

Wreaths Across America

In line with our commitment to our nation’s veterans, we are actively involved in the Wreaths Across America initiative. Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization with the mission of ensuring that no veteran is forgotten. Each December, they lead and organize wreath-laying ceremonies at cemeteries across the nation to honor the service and sacrifice of military personnel. This year, our driving associates supported the transport of 924 wreaths; we were honored to sponsor 199 of those wreaths in remembrance of our nation’s military veterans.

Members of our team attended Wreaths Across America’s opening ceremony on Dec. 16 at the Putnam County Courthouse’s Veterans Memorial. After, our team had the honor of participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Cookeville City Cemetery. Associates across our entire service network also attended wreath-laying events in their local communities to show their support. This symbolic act of remembrance is a poignant way for us to honor and pay tribute to the fallen heroes who have served our nation. We're honored to contribute to this meaningful initiative and invite our community to join us in commemorating the sacrifices of our nation's heroes.

A look ahead

Our team remains dedicated to positively impacting the lives of those who have given so much for our country. That includes providing them with a work environment they can thrive in. The way it reads right now, we (Corporate) were the only people to participate. I think the focus needs to be on our involvement in transporting the wreaths along with several associate across all our service centers participated in the actual wreath laying. We transported 924 wreaths between Cookeville City Cemetery and Crestlawn & Quarles-Burton Cemetery. Averitt sponsored 199 of those wreaths.
